Molly English Setter Senior - Adoption, Rescue for sale in Chesapeake, Virginia

Molly AB#18-02

Age: 10

Gender: Female

Size/Weight: Petite 32 pounds

Color: Tricolor

Breed: English setter, llewellyn

Good with children: Yes, had two pre-teens at original home

Good with dogs: Her same size or larger: yes NOT good with smaller dogs, fights with them

Good with cats: Probably not as she DOES Not LIKE SMALL ANIMALS. Was a hunting dog in her former life

House trained: a work in progress

Crate trained: YES

Leash trained: Easy to walk as she is petite, but does the setter back and forth walk

Behavior: Molly loves people and wants to please. She is very good with my bigger dogs but fights with my miniature goldendoodle and miniature labradoodle. She wants to be near you and enjoys affection but as she spent most of her life as an outside dog in a kennel she is still learning about the great indoors

Activity level: She is a busy girl in the house, likes to explore. Loves treats but does not play with toys but I think she could learn. Loves to be outside running with my two boy setters who are 65 and 80 pounds. Engages in play with them in a respectful manner. She is feeling her age a little in her hind end as she walks with a bit of arthritic walk but runs fast and does not seem to be in any discomfort.

Fence: Highly encouraged. I think she might do ok if trained to an electric fence but she needs a fence to keep her safe as she zeroes in on birds or squirrels and forgets where she is. Owing to her age, leash walking and the ability to get into a safe fenced area periodically might be enough activity for her to thrive.

Medical History: Molly has a clean bill of health other than some mild arthritis in her back legs. She has been spayed and is up to date on HW prevention and all of her vaccinations.

Foster Comments: Molly is a sweet and attentive girl who just wants to be with you. She loves attention and treats and gets along well with all people but is not excited about animals who are smaller than she is or those who jump on her. She settles well in her crate and sleeps all night. She will bark to be let out in the morning if I try to sleep in late but she has never had a crate accident. She knows Come and Kennel up or Get in your crate, treat and as she is willing to please I think she could learn a lot more. She is getting glucosamine and chondroitin for her arthritis and otherwise is a happy lively girl outside and will settle quickly inside. She had a very restricted life in an outdoor kennel for years with her littermate, a male that she lived with all her life. Her human father passed away a year and a half ago and his wife did not spend a lot of time with the dogs but did have two small children who took Molly for walks and played with her.
Her teeth are ground down from chewing on the kennel so she might require some dental attention in the future although they cause her no problems with eating.

Molly is a loveable old gal who needs a place to call her own as she is one of 9 in my house and doesnt receive as much attention as Im sure she would like. I think she would be an easy keeper as an only dog or perhaps one other larger setter or other dog. She has a very sweet temperament with people and is eager to please.
